The Sumner Ferrymead Foundation is delighted three community-minded local residents have been appointed as trustees. Chair of the Foundation, Martin Hawes, said it was often hard for community groups to find people who had the time ‘to roll up their sleeves’ to bring about positive changes in their community so it was particularly gratifying to find three residents responding to the call for new trustees. “With the three new trustees we have greater diversity in gender and age, and we are more representative of our catchment area too; it’s a very positive step forward.”

Andrew Clark

Andrew Clark and his family live in Heathcote Valley. He manages a local construction company, and has various other business interests. He is known for his unwavering support for the local community especially when it is in need. “

I have always possessed a strong desire to share my knowledge and believe in giving people a ‘leg up’ so the Sumner Ferrymead Foundation is a natural fit” said Andrew, “especially as it’s about helping individuals and community groups in my community.”

Sarah Angelo

Sarah Angelo is set to complete her teacher training this year. A familiar face at Te Kura o Paeraki | Mt Pleasant Primary in Learning Support, Sarah brings a strong background in hospitality and wellbeing to her community contributions. “

My husband and two children all work and play in the Sumner Ferrymead area and enjoy the benefits and beauty this community has to offer” said Sarah. “As a recipient of the Foundation’s 2022 Humanities Scholarship, it’s great to be able to give something back to our community.”

Noah Lewis

Noah Lewis lives in Sumner and is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Linguistics and Computer Science at the University of Canterbury. He works as a research assistant during the week, and at a Sumner cafe during the weekend. “

I discovered the Sumner Ferrymead Foundation through their second-year university scholarship programme and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know some of the trustees during the interview process, so it was an easy “Yes!” when I was asked about becoming a trustee” said Noah. “The idea of working with a foundation which supports local people and projects greatly appealed to me.”

And we farewell our Patron.

The trustees of the Sumner Ferrymead Foundation were saddened to hear of the death of their patron Allan Williams after a short illness. Allan had been involved with the Foundation since January 2007, initially as a trustee, and latterly as the patron. “He had a strong community spirit, and embodied the Foundation’s ethos of locals helping locals,” said trustee Jane Paterson. “As a longstanding Mt Pleasant resident, and an astute businessman, he added so much value to the Foundation. He will be greatly missed, and our thoughts are with his partner and family.”
