Awards & Scholarships

Each year the Sumner Ferrymead Foundation provides a range of scholarships and awards for individuals, groups, clubs and organisations in our catchment area.

  • The Puawai Awards are given to Year 8 students at the local primary schools. The recipients are chosen by the school and recognise students who have flourished during the year.
  • There are scholarships and awards for individuals including academic and Outward Bound Scholarships and an apprentice award. Applications open each year in early January, and close at the end of March.
  • There are also awards for community groups, clubs and organisations – for sports, and arts & culture groups, through to those with an interest in education or the environment.

Application forms will be available from early January in this section of the website.

The aim is to have nearly all the awards and scholarships sponsored by locals; this means those on offer may vary from year to year. Our sponsors share our ethos of ‘locals helping locals and we want to acknowledge their generosity, especially those who became involved when we first launched them in 2021.

If you would like to become involved by sponsoring an existing scholarship or award, or would like to establish a new one, please get in touch as we'd love to chat to you.
